Only on a street the city has designated as a cart street under Chapter 70, Article VIII of the Orange Beach city code, and only with a $100 city permit, valid insurance, and the required equipment. The city's own ordinance lists well over 170 residential streets by name, but the island's three state highways, Perdido Beach Boulevard, Orange Beach Boulevard, and Canal Road, are not on it and never will be under the ordinance's own terms, since all three are posted above the 25 mph cap the law allows.

No. Gulf Shores designates cart streets only inside specific subdivisions, Gulf Wood Highlands, Cypress Park, Craft Farms, Martyn Woods at Bon Secour, Aventura, and the West Lagoon Avenue area, rather than citywide, and it sets an 18-year-old minimum age, a 10 p.m. curfew, and a required orange safety flag that Orange Beach's ordinance does not. Check which city's line your street is on before you drive.

Ala. Const. Baldwin County §15.70, also cited as Amendment 921. It lets a municipality in Baldwin County designate streets for golf carts once it determines they can be traveled safely, caps designated streets at a 25 mph posted limit, requires headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and a windshield at minimum, requires a driver's license and liability insurance, and lets a city add stricter rules on top, which is exactly what Orange Beach and Gulf Shores each did differently.

Gulf Shores says no after 10 p.m. on any designated street. Orange Beach's ordinance does not set a curfew, but it requires headlights illuminated at all times the cart is in operation, mounted no higher than 36 inches, regardless of the hour. Either way, drive equipped for it.

The click is the solenoid engaging; if the cart does not move, the solenoid contacts are often burned, or the pack cannot deliver current under load, or a salt-corroded main cable is choking the current. Solenoid replacement runs $100 to $250 installed and is a same-visit fix. We test before we replace anything.

A charger that will not turn on is frequently a charge-port fault, a blown fuse, or a pack so discharged the charger cannot detect it, and on this coast a salt-fogged charge port is a genuine suspect on its own. We test the charger's output at the plug and the port for continuity before anyone talks about batteries. Charger repairs run $100 to $300; full replacement $300 to $800.

Charge it fully and unplug the charger before the power goes out, then get it to the highest ground available if you are anywhere near the water.
